Couple of minuscule flea bites on fragile hand cut edge. An absolute treasure from one of the oldest glass production facilities still proud in today by the masters of glass making. GOOD LUCK! HISTORY Bohemian Harrach Antique 1880's Art Glass Opalescent Crackle Bowl. Bohemian art glass bowl. The bowl is characteristic of the cased designs produced by a number of factories in Northern Bohemia during the latter 19th century (1880's - 1890's), perhaps Harrach. The piece has a striking Neo-Classical design with Castle Turret hand cut form. The bowl is beautifully executed in sapphire blue with white opalescent crackle interior. The exterior is decorated in hand painted heavy relief enamel with cherubs alongside an urn on one face and a floral spray with foliage on the other. The bowl measures 8 ¾" in diameter and 3 3/8" high. The piece is in very good condition, there is a shallow triangular ¼" x ¼" flake on the exterior of one point and a couple of ½ pinhead bites at the top rim (you have to look closely). This unique turret bowl would make a fine addition to any collection of antique Harrach / Bohemian art glass. The Harrach Glass House, located in the Northern Bohemian mountains, is believed to have been founded by Count Harrach in 1712 or 1714, making it the second oldest glass factory still in operation. The glass house was so productive that it supplied blanks to other glass houses and employed many designers and decorators. In 1763, Count Arnost Harrach directly owned and operated the glass works, which remained a major supplier of high-quality glass for Silesian engravers, despite a ban on Bohemian glass in 1742.
