Description: Lovely hand-tinted engraving titled "Summer" by Robert Sayer. Print depicts family harvesting wheat, indicators of the time of year. This is one of a pair of prints offered for sale, the other being "Spring" (see eBay item #235914328422). Should you decide to purchase both, combined shipping discounts would apply. Original sale tag en verso of the companion print reads "...hand-coloured etching....published in London by Robert Sayer in 1786. Original painted and grained frames". The set of "Four Seasons" printed and sold by B. Plen, Philadelphia, circa 1800, were based on this series, though in reverse" . The frame back has an original print label, quite darkened from oxidation. I cannot make out the words on this label, but putting together with companion piece, can ascertain it reads "Summer ~ London ~ Published as the Act directs May 12th, 1786 by Robert Sayer ~ Map, Chart, & Printseller, No. 58, Fleet Street". This is surrounded by an extract of the poem "The Four Seasons - Summer" by Scottish author, James Thomson, written in 1730. Dimensions: Total size 13.5” wide x 15” tall x 1.5” Deep. Image size as viewed through glass: 9-5/8” wide x 11-1/8” tall. Unpacked Weight: 2 lb. 13 oz.Condition: Excellent condition for age. Mentionable issues: scuffing and small nicks on frame perimeter edges; old gouge in top left of frame, . Image free from foxing, water stains, tears, paint erosion, unusual fading, or mentionable blemishes.Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I- only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
