Description: Frank, Anne. The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition. New York: Doubleday, 1995. 8vo., original quarter maroon cloth with red paperboards. viii, [ii], [1], 2-340 pp. Fifth printing of this edition, as noted by the numberline ending in "5" on the copyright page. An otherwise nondescript reprint save for the fact the title page is graced with the rare signature of Miep Gies, the employee of Anne Frank's father Otto who hid the family during the German occupation of the Netherlands and preserved Anne's diary so that it could be edited and published by Otto after his release from Auschwitz. For her work, about which she was almost modest, Gies was declared righteous among nations by Yad Vashem. For the remainder of her long life (she died in 2010 at the age of 100) she worked to promote Frank's diary and preserve the memory of those who died in the Holocaust. It does not appear that a copy of this book signed by Gies has ever appeared at auction, and given the fate of Anne, Margot (her sister), and her Mother this is probably the most desirable signed copy a person could find, sort of one inscribed by Otto Frank. I can locate no other copies signed directly by Gies in online commerce. Fine in like dust jacket. Additional photos happily supplied upon request. All inquiries will receive a prompt reply.
