ABINGDON POTTERY (IL 1934-50) JAM JAR WITH LID #666D (1949-50)

Description: Abingdon Pottery in Illinois made many different vases & decorative housewares from 1934-1950. The Abingdon Pottery Jam Jar #666D was made only 1949-1950. These pieces were made with either turquoise or yellow bottoms and hand-decorated lids with various molded fruit designs. The turquoise jars are more easily found than the yellow. Examples of the complete #666D Jam Jar Set with Tray can be seen on page 126 of the 1997 book "Abingdon Pottery Artware" by Joe Paradis.The jar with lid is about 4-1/4 inches tall and 3-1/8 inches across at its widest point. The top opening is about 2-3/8 inches in diameter and the base rim is about 1-1/2 inches in diameter. The jar has the small stamped Abingdon mark on the bottom that was used to mark their smaller pieces. The lid has 2 lines that would have been incised by the decorator to mark her work. (Another piece that makes me wish I knew what my Grandmother's mark was!) The jar is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing. While it is nice to have a full set (with the tray which is even harder to find), one little jam jar makes a great piece to use or display on its own.This is a duplicate from my own collection & time to move it on to a new owner who will enjoy it as much as I have.Ships USPS.Please look for other Abingdon Pottery pieces in my ebay store listings!
