Description: 50+ Koa Haole Tamarind Shrub Tree Seeds (Leucaena leucocephala) Miracle LeadtreeGrow Zones: 9,10,11,12 Other Names: Miracle Leadtree, River Tamarind, Haole Koa, White Leadtree, Jumbay, Wild Tamarind Leucaena leucocephala is an edible and medicinal tropical, nitrogen-fixing legume. The wood makes for great charcoal and the growth rate is fast (Unchopped, can grow 20 ft in 2 years with a wide spread). This makes wild tamarind an excellent choice for a biomass plant or green manure plant. The white flowers resemble the look of the yellow mimosa in a white form. Once established, little maintenance is required aside from chopping them from time to time (should you wish to keep them as a short plant). Otherwise they will grow into a lovely shade tree. Features edible leaves pods and flowers that can be eaten raw or cooked and added to stews, soups or as a side dish. The dried seeds are also used as a coffee substitute. They contain nutraceutical properties and are high in tannins. Note: Take care not to over-consume. As with most medicinal plants, over consumption leads to more of a problem than a solution due to toxins. Consult with an experienced natro doctor before considering the medical use of this and/or any natural medicine. I am not a doctor and cannot offer medical advice. Haole Koa is high in protein and used medicinally today in Mexico, Indonesia, South America and Thailand. It is anti-diabetic, anti-bacterial, anti-helminthic. Anthelmintic is an anti-parasitic group, unique in that this anti-helminthic group will kill worms and parasites without killing the host. Haole Koa is also anti-cancerous. It is not a wonder why this plant is featured in natural medicinal textbooks as a miracle plant. Germination Procedure: Firstly, heavily scratch or knick the hard seed coat on the rounded edge with a knife or a clipper. Next, drop seeds into boiling water for 3 minutes. Now the seeds are softened enough to sprout... Plant seeds at 1/8th an inch depth, pointed side down. Keep seeds and soil moist throughout the germination phase, about 3 weeks.
