Notes on some commonly used 3d printing materials: PLA: Most commonly used material in 3d printing; derived from corn or sugarcane so is biodegradable; basic PLA should not be exposed to over 125° F and exposure to sunlight should be minimized; available in custom formulations that can withstand higher temperatures and solar exposure. PETG: Another very popular 3d printing material; has smoother surface finish; water resistant; should not be exposed to temperatures usually above 160° F. About Bahtinov Focusing Masks Bahtinov masks can be a great aid in focusing your guidescope or telescope for astroimaging. With the mask on, you can see a diffraction spike pattern. Focus until you achieve a symetrical spike pattern. Once the best focus has been achieved, you can remove the mask and use the guide scope or telescope normally. B. Selecting the correct Bahtinov Mask for your telescope This mask is designed to be placed on the front (sky-end) of your telescope, spotting scope, guidescope or camera lens for focusing, and should then be removed without disturbing the imaging setup. Hence, do not get a mask that fits snugly or tightly like an end cap. A mask that just sits loosely on the dewshield and which may fall off due to gravity if the scope is pointed downwards is just fine. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase a mask that is 1-3 mm larger that the outside telescope tube or dewshield diameter. To get the proper fit, measure the outside diameter very carefully by using a caliper, ruler, or tape measure. See the 4th product photo above. Measure the widest distance of the telescope tube starting from the exterior of the casing, across the center and to the exterior part of the casing on the other side. Measure using a millimeter (mm) ruler if possible. If you measure in inches, convert to mm by multiplying by 25.4. For example, if your dewshield is 4-1/4" = 4.25 x 25.4 = 107.95mm in diameter, select a Bahtinov Mask with an inside diameter of 110mm (# BM-110) from the drop-down list above. Again, measure carefully before ordering and select a marginally larger size to avoid disappointment and expensive returns. C. Additional notes Bahtinov masks may not be effective for very small aperture guidescopes (under 50mm) or lenses with short focal lengths. This is a gray area - some people find these useful on small scopes and others, don't so your mileage may vary and we cannot make any recommendations for small scopes. 3D printed from PLA. Delivery Time: USPS First Class shipments will generally take 3-5 business days to arrive after we ship it. Priority Mail shipments will generally take 2-3 business days. However, these delivery times are NOT guaranteed by the USPS. Delays of up to 2 (or sometimes even 3) weeks can occur in about 5% of the shipments due to Covid, operational, or other issues. UPS shipments will generally take between 1 and 6 business days to be delivered depending on the method you select. USPS and UPS do NOT offer any refunds for shipping/delivery delays for ANY reason (except for UPS Next Day Air service). Delays are out of our control once your order ships. B. UPS (All Shipping Methods): We strongly recommend the use of UPS for international orders due to issues related to the ongoing Covid situation. Delivery time usually varies between 3-7 business days depending on your country and the exact shipping method you select. 2. USPS First Class International: First class packages will usually be carried by GlobalPost (a USPS international delivery partner) for most of the way. Delivery at your end will be handled by your local postal service. Delivery generally takes about 3-4 weeks after we ship your package. This can frequently take 4-6 weeks or more for several countries (8 weeks for Italy, Argentina, and South Africa; 8-12 weeks for Brazil). There is very limited tracking available for 1st class shipments and there is no inquiry/tracing service. Once your package ships, we can do nothing but wait until your package arrives. The most common reason for delays is slow customs inspection and clearance in your country, and can be very long, even for Express mail packages. Upon shipping your order, delivery delays are beyond our control, so do not leave us negative feedback or file a claim if your package is delayed.
