Description: 2 Cabinet Cards, Women photographers Ft. Atkinson, WI Buck; Indianapolis Bryant I have 2 cabinet cards by women photographers, certainly an oddity in their times. In the first card, this older couple have decided to get dressed up and have their photos made. Mrs. Ricker's cap sets off her hair. Mr. Ricker's white mane practically lets him drift into the background. What a great beard he has. Fading to image. Yellowing to image. Light soiling to card and image. Beveled, gilded edges to card. Some foxing (brown spotting to image.) In pencil on reverse is written "Family Ricker." Below image, on front, are printed, in gilded letters:"Ella L. Buck" and "Fort Atkinson, Wis." I have not been able to obtain any information about Ella Buck and where and when she came to own her business. Card measures about 6.5 inches x 4.125 inches. Image measures 5.75 x 3.875 inches. The second card, from Indianapolis, IN is of a beautiful young woman with beaded necklace, captured by photographer Mrs. Kate Bryant This lovely woman with large eyes gazes intently at something or someone just off-camera. The composition of the photo is really nice, with the tilt to her head and the light on her soft hair. A string of large beads wraps around her high collar and then down either side of the bleats on her blouse. Yellowing to image. Fading to image. Soiling to image and card, including a spot on the subject's forehead. Edge and corner wear to card. On reverse is written, in pencil:"19 years old." There is no back mark. No ID on the sitter. Below the image, on the card are: "Mrs. Kate Bryant," and "6 1/2 East Washington Street, INDIANAPOLIS." It is unclear whether Mrs. Bryant took over after the death of her husband, or worked alongside him. She is associated with this studio address and also with one at 88 South Illinois Street (where she succeeded a photographer named Staples.) Card measures 6.5 x 4.25 inches. Image is approximately 5.875 x 4.125 inches and portrait is about 3.5 x 2.5 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process. I am always happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases, so please check out my other listings. I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
