Description: 1962 Schwinn 26" Straight Bar Red Middleweight Typhoon. Completely restored. New paint, decals, near perfect. Not correct pedals for model year. 1962 was the only year Schwinn made the Typhoon with a straight top bar. They originally did this to establish a price difference between the Typhoon and some of the other models that they were offering. Schwinn thought the straight bar would somehow make the Typhoon appear "cheaper" than the cantilever top bar models, but after a year, they realized they were spending more trying to make the bike seem of lesser value. So after one year the Typhoon frame was made the same as the other models, with a cantilever style. The rear wheel is laced with a red band 2 speed kickback hub, which was a prestigious add on in 1962! This is a beautiful collector quality Schwinn bike.
