Description: Up for sale, a 1951 Gibson CF-100 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a molded hardshell case. An uncommon Gibson acoustic only available from 1950-59, the CF-100 is essentially an LG-2 with the same X-braced construction and 14 1/8" wide lower bout, featuring a Florentine cutaway. This well-loved CF-100 benefits from service due an acoustic of its vintage, including a professional neck reset, refret, and a carved bone saddle. Tonewoods include a spruce top, mahogany back and rims, and a mahogany neck capped with a bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Perhaps best known as the acoustic of choice for Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis, this CF-100 delivers a rich, broadband punch with a deep, focused rumble on the wound strings and sweet, round trebles. Notably articulate, the tonal profile is particularly well-suited for fingerstyle playing yet also yields great clarity and woody chop for big, strummed chords. This CF-100 is featherweight at 3lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action. There is also some deflection of the top both behind the bridge and adjacent to the soundhole, not uncommon for this body size and vintage. The original gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish exhibits extensive “shattered glass” checking across the body, with finish loss along the lower bout rim and on the back at the lower bout. There is pick wear across the soundhole, and some minor finish chips and various dings and scuffs consistent with decades of use. The smooth nitro gloss on the neck profile also exhibits plenty of checking, with palm wear through the gloss along the shoulders in the lower registers and central to the carve behind frets 2-5. A Cahaya modern molded hardshell case is included.
