Description: "ESSO OIL TANKER" ADVERTISING TOY TRUCK – circa late 1950's – early 1960's Asakusa Toy Co., Japan. 18" x 5" x 4.75". Color litho on tin with rubber wheels & plastic accents. We offer a detailed figural depiction of an ESSO gas/oil tanker truck with "Happy", ESSO's popular oil drop mascot, depicted 4x. Asakusa's unique logo appears on one of the cab doors. Includes a highly graphic litho design and all 8 rubber wheels (6 are designed as "double" wheels). Cab hood light, two tanker end pieces, one tanker side ladder, one cab door logo, and friction mechanism cover are missing. NOTE: Other small pieces unknown to us could also possibly be missing. That being said, we feel this scarce tanker toy variation has outstanding eye appeal. A well-made advertising toy associated with this popular gas/oil company. We consider condition as only FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Misc. litho scuffing with scattered surface oxidation on litho & bare metal areas. Moderate creasing on underlying blue classis areas, causing a downward appearance to the front cab. Back of front cab is reinforced with two strands of wiring for support. Metal friction mechanism moves freely, but is oxidized & unfunctional. Wheels still roll freely. Nevertheless, we feel this uncommon toy still has nice graphic & visual charm. Overall, despite defects, we feel this promotional rarity is still a very displayable example by most standards (see photos).
