Description: 1944 Vintage Press Photo.Probably discussing some famous athletic event, are these three known sportsmen aboard a Coast Guard-manned Navy ship. They are (left to right): George S. Halas, owner-coach of the Chicago Bears professional football team; James E. Hegan, former Cleveland Indians catcher; and Lt. Comdr. John P. Sabo, former assistant coach at Yale University. Halas also carries the rating of Lt. Comdr. George Stanley Halas Sr., nicknamed "Papa Bear" and "Mr. Everything", was an American football end, coach, and executive. He was the founder and owner of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League, and served as his own head coach on four occasions. Photo is Dated: April 29, 1944.
