Description: 1937 D WALKING LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR PCGS MS 66 EXCELLENT SILVERY SATIN LUSTER WITH A FAINT BLUSH OF CHAMPAGNE. Fully struck, fully brilliant, and fully original. One scuff on the upper thigh and hand are noted. At PCGS, the '37 D is seen with considerably less frequency than the venerable 1938 D. At PCGS, there are 3142 1938 D Walkers graded in Mint State, while the number for the 1937 D is 2736, fully 13% fewer. At NGC, the numbers are; 1938 D in Mint State, 1339; the 1937 D in Mint State, 1225, nearly 9% lower. The notoriety of the '38D is no doubt due to it's status as the third lowest mintage of the series, at 491,600. The 1937 D had a mintage of 1,676,000, which was quite low contemporaneously, and is, in fact, the lowest mintage going back to the 1929 D, and is actually the 14th lowest mintage in the entire series. Just 416 in MS 66 at PCGS, with 169 better. At NGC, those numbers are 183 in MS66, and just 70 better. Tough date, to say the least.
