Description: Original vintage photograph by Horace Brazelton, the first African American photography studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee ~ large celebratory group of Black men and women; two men holding "Flying Ace Club" signs in their laps ~ aviators ? The only reference we could find to any group with that name was in a 1938 newspaper ~ The Advertiser-Monitor, from Mount Clemens, Michigan ~ where the Flying Ace Club was referred to as "an organization, past and present. Every great American aviator is on their list of members". Horace M. Brazelton (1878-1956) was the first African American photographer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He opened his studio in 1904 and remained in business until his death in 1956. He was trained at his home by an unknown German photographer, and his wife, Hettie Brazelton, was also highly involved in the business.
