Description: This vintage postcard showcases two impeccably dressed gentlemen posing for a photograph. The man on the right can be seen touching the other's lefthand with his pinky finger, while the man on the left appears to be missing his right hand. The image was captured in the early 1900s by the Palace Studio in Richwood, West Virginia, using original AZO photo stock. The postcard is made of high-quality cardboard and paper materials, and is an original real photo postcard (RPPC) that has not been reprinted or licensed. It measures a standard size of 5.5 x 3.5 inches and is in unposted condition. This unique piece of collectible is a perfect addition to any vintage postcard or photography collection. The real photograph intrigues me. I have had it my personal collection for a while. But my collection has become more a hoarder's bounty than a collection, so I thought someone else might appreciate it. It is an early photograph, printed on AZO photo stock, as the machine wrote in the opening paragraph. My fascination with the photo is multi-faceted. When I first saw the photograph, my instincts told me that the two men were together, as a couple. I know one sees what he wants to see, but gay coupling had to be a very stealthy endeavor during this period of time especially in the hard, Mountain State, where every man (and plenty of ladies) worked in a coal mine or had claim to one. I can say with confidence these gentlemen are not family; they strike no resemblance. The man on my right is obviously (at least to me) brushing the other man's hand with his pinky finger. These gentlemen were not taking a friendly photography, as they would not be leaning into one another or touching. While they are both dapper, the man on the right was a man of means, probably his entire life. He has a rigged, regimented posture. He wears an expensive suit with a "proper" (aristocratic) top hat. The one on the left looks a bit humbler wearing a toboggan and exposed boots and he has a very relaxed posture. The gentleman on the left seems to be missing his right hand (my left). I've looked at it through the loupe on several occasions, and it is just not there. All of this is supposition, but there is thoughtfulness to the supposition.
