Description: 1838 American Anti-Slavery Token Woman I am sure we are all familiar with those abolitionist tokens with "Am I Not a Man and a Brother." They come in all metals and sizes and were struck from the 1790s till the 1830s in England. British versions of the ones depicting a female slave, however, are RARE. During the anti-slavery movement in America, a token depicting a kneeling woman in chains was struck here. Because British female slave tokens and medals are so rare, this American counterpart offers collectors the only other alternative. This one was graded AU, cleaned. I don't know what was 'cleaned' here. Perhaps someone used a soft Kleenex tissue over it? Just don't know. This piece has excellent brown color and surfaces with clean rims. It's a very pleasing token and difficult to find one so choice. But you be the judge. Look at the photos and you decide.
