1783 first president George Washington cent token in a way 2nd US campaign medal

Description: 1783 first president George Washington cent token, in a way it was the second US presidential campaign medal/token. 1783 was right after the United States won their independence from Britain. This coin, and another that used the term "unity states" were minted and traded as pennies for barter. It was never legal currency, which came about in 1796. THIS COIN, IN A MANNER OF SPEAKING WAS PROMOTING WASHINGTON AS A SUPREME LEADER. George Washington, however hated the coin and the many tokens and cent attempts by various minters from 1783 to 1796 to try to win a contract for minting coinage for the new republic. WHY? Because he had just fought a revolution to oust the monarchy. To see his image on a coin like a king was offensive to him. His feelings on the subject were so strong, it may have been why the US didn't put a president on a regular coin until 1909. Coin has damage on both sides, it may have been used as a shim or a washer sometime in it's 240 year lifespan. Satisfaction guaranteed with 14 day no questions return policy.
