1779 Good size 18th century print of Matlock Bath in Derbyshire

Description: On offer is an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) and uncommon 1779 copper engraved print of "A Perspective View of Matclock Bath in the Derbyshire. as it appears from the Grove called Lovers Walk". Published in The Modern Universal British Traveller or, a New, Complete, and Accurate tour Through England, Wales, Scotland, and the Neighbouring Islands. Published between 1779 and the mid 1790's by J. Cooke in London. Sheet size is approx. 14 x 8.75 inches (35 x 22 cm) with the printed area being approx 12 x 7.25 inches (31 x 19 cm). Offered uncoloured as issued. A few slight spots to outer margins, but overall in very good and clean state. Note: These prints are over 225 years old, thus there are likely some age-related condtions present on the engravings. We will endeavor to point out the most glaring flaws, but expect at least some signs of age on this beautiful authentic copperplate engraving. Matlock Bath is a village and civil parish situated south of Matlock on the main A6 road in Derbyshire, England, approximately halfway between Buxton and Derby. Originally built at the head of a dead-end dirt road running alongside the valley of the River Derwent from Matlock itself, the locality developed in the 19th century as residential and a spa town and still thrives on tourism. Development was and is very restricted due to the steep hillsides, with the majority of buildings on one side of the valley with only footbridges across the river.
