Description: This listing is for 1/48 CEM48033 F-18A/B/C/D Hornet Wheels For Hasegawa and Kinetic 1/48 scale kits This set is designed to replace the wheels on the two more commonly found kits of the early legacy Hornet variants from the two manufactures that are considered the most accurate to date. Why replace the tires on theses kits you ask...? Quite simply put, Kinetics parts render horribly and way, way undersized representation of the real tires, inexplicably require sandwiching the rim between two halves of what is to represent the actual rubber component on the front and main tires. Why this was molded this way, I haven't the foggiest clue because it neither facilitates rendering tread detail of which non exist anyway on the kit parts, and with sloppy tolerancing, leaves a nice gap between the rim edge and the tire components and even though one can paint the rim white first and prepaint the tire halves black, you still have to glue them together and sand the seam and repaint black without getting glue and paint all over each other.Kinetic's kit tire give the final build a funny look and stance. Hasegawas' tires although sized well, show their age and limitations in detail fidelity due to limitations in injection modeling along with tire cross-section being too rounded. Why another resin replacement offering from another manufacture? Every aftermarket set I find out there to date either has over embellished tire data on the sides not to scale improper tread spacing. Tires are cast or printed in one piece which leaves a modeller with three conditions to deal with: -Drilling the tires to mount to random kit without considering that between Hasegawa's and Kinetics kit landing gear, the mounting bosses are largely different in size and backspacing. Drilling perpendicular to the rotational axis presents problems without alignment aids. Also back brake detail is compromised on most sets because they will not fit either of two kits without obliterating the detail normally unmatched in size with the kits landing gear mounting bosses. -Requiring the use of custom masks and dealing with paint color delineation -Filler valves and interior brake detail are not accurately rendered nor is the depth accurately depicted within the apertures of the outboard rim. -Painting anything through those apertures representing either dirty brakes or parts that are painted white cannot be done so efficiently by airbrush without flooding the outer face with paint before sufficiently coating the interior beyond those apertures. What this set does: -Provides a multi piece set that firstly allows one to paint all parts separately and join together without masks. Clearance between rim and tire parts is matched perfectly to allow fitment without interference from light dusting of paint on the outer rim yet not leave a large gap like the Kinetic kit exhibits. -Interior parts visible through the apertures of the outer rim can be painted separately and glued in place and depict valves and rotor detail. -Accurately rendered tire data that doesn't look like someone glued bricks to the side tire wall to represent text yet not so faint in detail that a coat of paint with make them disappear. -Proper rim, curves and cupping detail on rim. -Two sets of rim backs for both front and back wheels to ease fitment to either of both kit types without requiring drilling out side winding holes and obliterating back brake detail. -No heavy casting blocks and easy to remove parts using a hobby knife alone for removal and with a little scrapping action, one might be able to fit all together without even needing files or sandpaper. -Simple keyed construction with refined bolt and cover detail. Paint with any paint you like and glue using cyanocrylate. Check out my other offerings at my store.Shipping available to CONUS, Australia, Canada and United Kingdom only. Sold "has is". No returns.
